Abstract
Akbar Masoom is one of the most prominent Urdu poets of the present day. He belonged to a small district of Sindh, Sanghar. He was born in 1960 in Sanghar. Akbar Masoom was a poet of Ghazals. He was a poet of Urdu and Punjabi Languages at the same time. His Urdu collections include "Aur Kahan Tak Jana hay” and "Besakhta". While "NinderPichle Pehar Di"is a collection of his Punjabi poetry. He also worked as a translator. As a translator, his translation of a novel "Hama-uust" by the famous novelist of Sindhi literature "Agha Saleem" is memorable. He is generally called a poet of romanticism and aesthetics. Akbar's name does not need any introduction in modern Ghazals. He holds a separate place in modern ghazals. He was also physically disabled. He was suffering from a muscle disease called proximal myopathy. Initially, he was able to walk, but after completing his college education, the disease gradually paralyzed him. Finally, with homeopathic treatment, he was only able to live in a wheelchair. Apart from the initial few years, he spent his entire life sitting in a wheelchair. Instead of complaining about his deprivations, he made pen and book a means of expression and worked hard in the service of literature and poetry all his life. He passed away on 7th April 2019. But his efforts in the literary field will always be appreciated. This article sheds light on the personality and art of Akbar Masoom.
