Abstract

This research presents a comprehensive analysis of the origin, evolution, significance, and regional contributions of Qur'an translations in the Indian subcontinent. It highlights the encouragement of Qur'an translation from Islamic perspectives based on Qur'anic and Hadith references. The study outlines the historical background of Qur'an translations in the subcontinent, emphasizing their role in promoting Qur'anic understanding among diverse linguistic communities. A detailed examination is conducted on the translations of the Qur'an into regional languages, including Urdu, Hindi, Sindhi, Punjabi, Kashmiri, and Pashto. Urdu translations are categorized into three historical phases, focusing on their linguistic styles, interpretative approaches, and societal impacts. The study further evaluates the necessity, benefits, and religious and scholarly influence of these translations. Additionally, it sheds light on how these translations have contributed to the dissemination of Islamic knowledge and enhanced Qur'anic comprehension among the masses.
