A Research Review of Family Issues in "Zakhīrat al-Jinān fī Fahm al-Qurʾān" by Mawlānā Muḥammad Sarfarāz Khān Safda

Abstract

This study explores the discussion of family issues in Zakhīrat al-Jinān fī Fahm al-Qurʾān, a renowned exegesis by Mawlānā Muḥammad Sarfarāz Khān Safdar. The commentary presents a traditional Islamic perspective on various aspects of family life, including marriage, divorce, inheritance, and the rights and responsibilities of spouses. The research aims to analyze the scholarly approach of the author in interpreting Quranic injunctions related to family matters. By examining the linguistic, juristic, and social dimensions of these discussions, this study highlights how the exegete aligns his interpretations with classical Islamic jurisprudence while addressing contemporary family concerns. Furthermore, it assesses the relevance of these interpretations in modern socio-cultural contexts. The methodology involves a qualitative analysis of the text, comparing its explanations with other classical and modern tafāsīr. The study concludes that Mawlānā Safdar’s approach remains deeply rooted in the traditional framework of Islamic scholarship, providing valuable insights into family ethics and law as derived from the Qurʾān. His work contributes significantly to the understanding of familial harmony and legal rulings within the Islamic paradigm.
