''جون ایلیا کی شاعری میں عصری سماجی شعور: فکر، مزاج اور رویّے کا تنقیدی مطالعہ"
Abstract
This research explores the intricate layers of contemporary social consciousness in the poetry of Jaun Elia, a renowned Urdu poet, philosopher, and intellectual. Building upon the historical evolution of socio-literary awareness in Urdu poetry—from the mystic thought of early Sufis to the ideological fervor of poets like Iqbal and Faiz—this study locates Jaun Elia’s poetry as a unique contribution that bridges modern existential anxiety with socio-political discontent. Elia’s poetry is marked by its philosophical depth, linguistic innovation, and emotional resonance, simultaneously embodying protest, introspection, and rebellion.
The study critically analyzes the poet’s engagement with themes such as class disparity, cultural disintegration, alienation, educational inequality, and institutional hypocrisy. It positions Elia as a voice of dissent against systemic oppression—both external and internal—while also highlighting his ability to reflect historical consciousness and philosophical complexity within a lyrical framework. His personal anguish becomes a metaphor for collective suffering, turning the poetic self into a site of social and intellectual resistance.
Moreover, the research underscores Elia’s use of symbolic language, sarcasm, and existential motifs, making his verse not only aesthetically powerful but intellectually provocative. Drawing on references from philosophy, history, and socio-political thought, the study presents Jaun Elia as a modern poet whose work remains deeply relevant to today’s fragmented and questioning world.
