This article presents an introductory study of the major works related to Mushkilāt al-Qurʾān (problematic or apparently ambiguous Qurʾānic verses) with particular focus on the scholarly efforts of Qurʾānic exegetes. The study does not aim to analyze or evaluate divergent exegetical interpretations, nor does it attempt to resolve specific Qurʾānic difficulties. Rather, its primary objective is to introduce and contextualize the foundational books that have contributed to the development and consolidation of this specialized field within Qurʾānic studies. The article highlights how early and later exegetes recognized Mushkilāt al-Qurʾān as a significant intellectual concern and addressed it either through independent treatises or within their comprehensive tafsīr works. By offering a basic overview of these key texts, the study demonstrates the continuity, diversity, and methodological awareness present in the classical exegetical tradition. Ultimately, this introductory survey provides a foundational framework for future analytical and comparative research on the nature of Qurʾānic difficulties and the scholarly methods employed to address them.
