Modernism refers to the tendency to deviate from old values and traditions and embrace new ideas and experiments. Modern writers and poets chose a unique path for themselves, challenging society's traditional concepts. In Urdu literature, Miraji is among the prominent poets who introduced modernism. He incorporated all the fundamental themes of modernism into his poetry and, through intellectual and artistic experimentation, added new dimensions to Urdu poetry.
Miraji's poem "Khamyaza" tells the story of a man who rebels against old traditions and sets out in search of a new path. However, he finds no peace anywhere. This poem reflects the psychological conflict, loneliness, and restlessness of modern man, caught in a constant clash between tradition and modernity. This internal struggle repeatedly surfaces in Miraji's poetry, which is a key characteristic of modernism.
Thus, Miraji not only promoted modern trends in Urdu poetry but also gave literary expression to the complex questions of human existence. His work stands as a milestone in modern Urdu literature.
