This article explores the significant role that orphanages play in the care and upbringing of orphaned children from both social and ethical perspectives. In Islamic teachings, the sponsorship (kafalah) of orphans is highly emphasized, not only as an act of charity but as a moral responsibility. The term "kafalah" refers to ensuring the needs of an orphan are met, including education, food, shelter, clothing, and emotional support. The article begins by defining the concept of orphanhood in Islam, supported by Quranic injunctions and Prophetic traditions. It further examines the institutional role of orphanages in providing structured care the challenges they face, and the ethical implications of managing orphaned children's rights and property. The discussion highlights the dual responsibility of society and the state in integrating these children as empowered individuals rather than neglected dependents.
