Abstract

This empirical study investigates the role of media in amplifying the political participation of Pakistan’s transgender community through semi-structured interviews with transgender individuals and media professionals. Findings reveal systemic barriers such as social stigmatization, legal inadequacies, and limited access to political platforms. However, inclusive and accurate media representation emerges as a transformative tool for empowerment, challenging stereotypes, and fostering public awareness. The study underscores media’s potential to enhance political engagement by amplifying transgender voices, advocating for rights, and shaping inclusive policy agendas. Recommendations include legislative reforms, media literacy programs, and collaborative partnerships to bridge gaps between policy and practice.
