Beliefs and worship play a basic role in the Islamic system of life. The foundation of the Islamic system is based on beliefs, which are the cornerstone of its grandeur. The strength of these beliefs determines the solidity of the entire structure. Islamic beliefs are key to the welfare and progress of Muslim society.
In Islam, beliefs are the foundation, and worship is the superstructure. Beliefs and worship influence human life, infusing success and progress. They strengthen one's relationship with Allah and help Muslims understand the true nature of this world.
On the other hand, modern materialism focuses on external progress and material well-being. Materialists prioritize worldly gains, neglecting spiritual growth. The Quran highlights the stories of past nations, like the people of Prophet Shu’aib (A S) and Prophet Salih (A S), and tyrants like Nimrod, Qarun, Pharaoh, and Haman, who despite their material success, met with destruction.
In contrast, spiritually successful individuals, like prophets and their followers, despite being materially weak, were spiritually strong and courageous. Islam teaches moderation in material pursuits and encourages spending on spiritual growth. The Quran says, ﴿وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ مَاذَا يُنفِقُونَ قُلِ الْعَفْوَ﴾
"And they ask you what they should spend. Say, 'What is beyond your needs.'" (2:219)
Islam provides a complete system of beliefs and worship to counter materialism, enabling Muslims to transcend material influences and achieve spiritual purification.
