An Analytical Study of the Foreign Policy of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)

Abstract

Every system is based on certain guiding principles. Without principles, it is not only difficult but impossible to define the boundaries of any institution. Principles are the foundation that provide stability to a system or organization; without them, neither systems can function nor institutions can survive. This article presents an analytical study of the foreign policy of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, focusing on his diplomatic strategies, international relations, and principles for promoting peace and harmony. The Prophet ﷺ established relations with tribes, states, and non-Muslim nations across the Arabian Peninsula, demonstrating political wisdom, moral excellence, and principled leadership. Events such as the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, letters sent to various rulers, and international agreements are examined in light of modern diplomatic norms. The study concludes that the Prophet’s ﷺ foreign policy was centered on justice, peace, outreach, and humanitarian values—offering timeless guidance for today’s global systems.
