Imam Ibn Taymiyyah: His Biography and Scholarly Status – A Specialized Study

Ibn Taymiyyah's personality is not hidden in the Islamic world. His family has been teaching for seven or eight generations, and all of them were distinguished in science and art. Allama's father Abdul Halim was a great scholar. He was perfect in the art of Hadith. His father, Imam Abdul Halim bin Abdul Salam (may Allah have mercy on him), was a great scholar and a virtuous person and he was well-versed in all Islamic sciences. He was the Sheikh of Hadith of Darul Hadith al-Sukriya. He died in 683 AH. His mother's name was Fatima and her title was Sat al-Muna'im. His father's name was Abdul Rahman bin Ali. Al-Muna'im Fatima was a very pious, ascetic, patient, thankful and courageous woman. He died in Damascus in 716 AH. At the time when Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) was born, the entire Islamic world was shaken by the fear of the Tatars. Imam Sahib (may Allah have mercy on him) spent the first 6 years of his life in Harran. When he entered his seventh year, Tohran also fell under the Tatars. After the Tatars attacked, there was no place of refuge for knowledge, virtue, honor, life and property. Therefore, the father of Imam Sahib (may Allah have mercy on him), Abdul Halim bin Abdul Salam (may Allah have mercy on him), decided to seek refuge in another city. So, he put his belongings and books in a cart. And he set off towards Damascus, and the Tatars pursued him. But Allah Almighty protected him from their conspiracy. He and his family and belongings reached Damascus. Ibn Taymiyyah was an expert in the sciences of the Quran, the Uloomul Hadith, the Uloomul jurisprudence and other Ulooms of Sharia. His entire life was spent in a pen-based jihad against the elements that were hostile to Islam.
