A Study of Notable Books on 'Lughat-ul-Quran' in the Urdu Language: An Analytical Review

Abstract

The understanding of the Holy Qur’an is the real purpose of Deen. After the understanding of the Holy Qur’an a true believer can live according to Allah Ta’ala’s will. How can we understand of the Holy Qur’an. The Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) responsibilities that he must explained which he was revealed. As Allah Ta’ala says in Surah Nahal verse No. 44 “O Prophet˺ the Reminder, so that you may explain to people what has been revealed for them” (Translated by Dr Mustafa Khattab) after Prophet’s people worked on Qura’anic Tafseer in the light of the Prophet’s Narrations. The Commentator worked the interoperation of the Holy Qur’an, similarly lexicographers (Mahir-e-Lughat) on it. With this reference we had lots of books regarding ‘Tafaseer’ and ‘lughat al-Qur’an’ in Arabic language. When Islam came in India, we were need Tafseer and lughat in multiple languages. As we know Urdu language the best way to talk each other. So, most of the Muslim preachers, they preached in Urdu language. After that Muslim scholar translated all Islamic literature (Quranic Tafseer, Hadith, History and etc.) in Urdu language. We were need some important thinks related to the Holy Qur’an in Urdu language like, Tafseer and Lughat. Our scholars worked very hard, and they compiled Quality work regarding Tafseer and Lughat. If we talk about lughatul Qur’an, we have lots of book in Urdu language. Some lexicographers worked with explanatory style, some lexicographers worked only for beginner, like, they wrote only Quranic words meaning in their books. Here some special lexicographers worked, and their style of writing will be discussed.
