The infallibility of the Prophets (peace be upon them) is a fundamental pillar of Islamic belief. In the light of the Qur’an and Hadith, it is established that the noble Prophets (peace be upon them) are chosen and selected servants of Allah. The Most Generous Lord protected them from every kind of slip, error, and sin so that they could serve as a complete proof for humanity and a perfect model to follow. The infallibility of the Prophets is not limited only to their lives after the declaration of prophethood; rather, their purity and protection from sin before prophethood is also an established fact. This is why Allah Almighty has mentioned at various places their natural purity and moral excellence, and has declared their character to be an excellent example for the community. If infallibility before prophethood were not present, then attaining the rank of prophethood and serving as a decisive proof for people would become doubtful. To clarify this belief, there are numerous verses of the Holy Qur’an, sayings of the Prophet, and statements of the Imams and exegetes, all of which prove that the Prophets remained protected and secure from sin and disobedience throughout their entire lives, whether before prophethood or after it.
