The doctrinal foundation of Islam rests upon two fundamental pillars: Tawhid (the Oneness of God) and Risalah (Messengership). Tawhid requires that Allah Almighty be believed to be perfect in His essence and attributes, free from every deficiency and exalted above all flaws. In accordance with this wisdom, Allah sent Messengers for the guidance of humanity, appointed angels as the medium of revelation, and endowed all bearers of revelation with the quality of infallibility so that the divine message might reach creation without any alteration or deficiency. The belief in Messengership is the basis of faith in Islam, and the primary proof of the truthfulness of Risalah is the infallibility of the Messenger. Infallibility means that Allah completely protects His Messenger from sin, error, falsehood, betrayal, and mistakes in conveying the religion. If the infallibility of the Messenger were denied, the foundation of the entire religion would become doubtful. For this reason, there is consensus among the Muslim community that denying the doctrine of prophetic infallibility is itself disbelief and apostasy. In Islam, the status of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is so exalted and sacred that any form of disrespect, disparagement, or statement that negates the office of prophethood and messengership is absolutely unacceptable. Believing that the Prophets (peace be upon them) are free from errors and sins is an essential component of Islamic faith, so that it can be affirmed with complete certainty that they convey the message of Allah to humanity correctly and without fault.
