Rasheed Amjad belongs to the psychological and symbolic school of Urdu short fiction. In his short story “aik kahani apny liye”he powerfully shapes the modern human being’s inner conflict, loneliness, memory, and unconscious desires within the narrative form of the short story. Through techniques such as soliloquy, free association of thought, and a circular sense of time, the story presents the emotional isolation, unfulfilled love, and early trauma of the central character the narrator. These experiences repeatedly surface in the individual’s unconscious as enduring sadness and an existential void. The narrator’s life appears suspended between a few fleeting moments of attachment and prolonged solitude, where the recurring return of memories, illusion and delusion, and a crisis of identity emerge as symbols of the modern human’s existential anguish. This article examines the solitude, inner helplessness, and unconscious deprivations of the modern individual in the light of Rasheed Amjad’s distinctive style and his profound psychological insight.
