This paper offers a thorough analytical examination of the concept of Prophethood as articulated in classical Islamic theology, focusing specifically on the influential treatise Asbāt al-Nubuwwah. Prophethood holds a pivotal role in Islam, acting as the essential link between the Divine and humankind. The study delves into how Islamic scholars, particularly in Asbāt al-Nubuwwah, have explained the necessity, reality, and evidences of Prophethood by employing rational arguments, theological insights, spiritual considerations, and historical contexts. The research initiates with a detailed exploration of the fundamental nature and definition of Prophethood, making clear distinctions between its investigation (taḥqīq) and its affirmation (ithbāt). It critically assesses the intellectual methods used by traditional scholars to demonstrate why divine revelation is indispensable and surpasses the limits of human reason. Key themes discussed include the inherent constraints of human intellect, the ethical and social need for prophetic guidance, the societal impact of prophets, and the miraculous signs that authenticate their mission, all examined against contemporary intellectual challenges. Additionally, the paper reviews the standards by which genuine Prophethood is established—such as miraculous phenomena, exemplary moral character, truthfulness, and divine sanction—and addresses common philosophical and orientalist critiques.By placing Asbāt al-Nubuwwah within the wider tradition of Islamic thought, this research underscores that affirming Prophethood is not merely a matter of faith but also a reasoned and ethical obligation. Ultimately, the paper argues that a comprehensive approach—combining verification and conceptual understanding—provides a robust framework for defending this foundational Islamic doctrine in today’s intellectual.
