Abstract

The personality and creations of Insha Allah Khan 'Insha' have been unfairly criticized by all researchers, critics, and essayists of Urdu literature. Consequently, work on a brilliant creator and grammarian like Insha has been negligible in Urdu literature from the 17th to the 21st century CE. The present writer has made a humble attempt to cast an impartial critical eye on Insha and his creations. An analysis will be conducted of the unwarranted criticism leveled against Insha's personality and works to ensure he receives his rightful place in Urdu literature. Upon examining the literary criticism concerning Insha, the writer found that all the accusations made against him by his contemporaries formed the basis for the later critics' views. This has tarnished Insha's towering personality and led to his creations being viewed through a mistaken critical lens. The responsibility of securing Insha's rightful status now rests upon the present writer and other contemporary researchers and critics. It is essential to determine the validity of the criticism directed at Insha and his works.
