Abstract

Communication is one of the fundamental activities of human life. Proper understanding of the conversation between the participants is mandatory for successful communication. Miscommunication results when the participants fail to comprehend each other properly and it is more dangerous in this field as it can result the loss of health as well as life. Therefore the study is focused on the communicative failures in the setting of healthcare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as this area is not researched in the said context. The researchers used qualitative research approach and collected data through recording, observation and interviews.  Fifty patients and ten healthcare providers in three hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are taken as a sample of the study. The data was analyzed t in the light of the communication accommodation theory. The findings indicate that a communicative failure in health department is due to the lack of education, psychological and cultural factors which combined improper attitude of the doctors while dealing with the patients. This research recommends that government and stakeholder should take initiatives to minimize this communication failure so that improvement in the health department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can be bring through better understanding between the patients and health practitioners.
