Taj Muhammad Tajal, a distinguished Sufi poet of Brahui, holds a unique place in Brahui Sufi poetry. He is also honored as a "poet of seven languages," having composed poetry not only in Brahui but also in Balochi, Saraiki, Sindhi, Urdu, Persian, and Arabic. His poetry reflects the fundamental philosophies of Sufism—Wahdat al-Wujud (Unity of Being), Wahdat al-Shuhud (Unity of Witnessing), divine love, and humanism. His verses carry a profound spiritual resonance that liberates the reader from the constraints of the material world and guides them toward the pursuit of absolute truth. Taj Muhammad Tajal’s Brahui poetry is not mere linguistic ornamentation but a journey from self-awareness to divine realization. His verses are imbued with Sufi symbolism, the fervent emotions of love, and the mysteries of unity. Through his poetry, he urges individuals to transcend prejudices and materialistic attachments in their quest for truth.
This paper explores the core themes of Sufism in Taj Muhammad Tajal’s Brahui poetry, highlighting the philosophical dimensions of Wahdat al-Wujud and Wahdat al-Shuhud embedded in his work. Furthermore, it examines the various aspects of divine love in his poetry, demonstrating that humanism and fraternity constitute the central tenets of his literary vision. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the tradition, temperament, and lineage of Brahui Sufi poetry. It also analyzes how Taj Muhammad Tajal’s poetry remains a profound intellectual and spiritual asset in contemporary times, firmly rooted in the philosophy of humanism.
