Abstract

The tradition of Hamd (praise of God) and Naat (praise of the Prophet) in Balochi poetry has deep historical roots, originating in the classical period of Balochi literature. During this era, poets were well-versed in Arabic and Persian literary traditions, which significantly influenced their poetic expression. The linguistic and thematic impact of these traditions is evident in classical Balochi Hamd and Naat poetry, where devotional elements are deeply interwoven with Arabic and Persian stylistic features. In modern Balochi poetry, while these influences persist, there is a noticeable shift toward experimentation with new poetic forms and stylistic innovations. This study aims to explore how the Seerat (life and character of the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH) has been portrayed in both classical and modern Balochi poetry, analyzing the transformation of devotional expression over time. By examining the evolution of Hamd and Naat, this research highlights the literary, cultural, and linguistic factors shaping Balochi poetic traditions. The paper provides a research-based analysis of the continuity and change in the representation of the Prophet’s life, offering insights into the impact of modernity on traditional Balochi religious poetry.
