This research explores the Islamic legal principle of necessity (ḍarūra) and its implications for the permissibility of alcohol-based medications. Islamic jurisprudence, while rooted in immutable divine principles, incorporates flexibility to accommodate emerging human needs. The doctrine of necessity allows for temporary suspension of prohibitions when life, health, or essential functions are at stake. Through classical definitions and scholarly interpretations, the study outlines strict conditions under which prohibited substances, such as alcohol, may be used in treatment—namely when no permissible alternative exists, the treatment is effective, and its usage is limited to the required amount. Historical and contemporary fatwas are presented, reflecting juristic consensus on using alcohol-derived medicines in critical medical situations, especially when the intoxicating element is either negligible or transformed during manufacturing. The study concludes that Islamic law, through nuanced jurisprudence and foundational maxims such as
"الضرورات تبیح المحظورات " (necessities permit the prohibited), provides a compassionate and practical legal framework that balances religious values with human welfare۔
