THE DA’WAH STRATEGY OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD AND ITS REFLECTION IN SELECTED ISLAMIC ORGANIZATIONS IN PAKISTAN: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Abstract

Allah Almighty sent prophets for the spiritual and moral guidance of humanity, instructing them to invite people to His path using wisdom and appropriate methodology. The Holy Qur’an presents various approaches to Da’wah, including gentle counsel, wisdom, and persuasive reasoning. A vital aspect of effective preaching is consistency between words and actions. As the Qur’an states: “O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do?” (Surah As-Saff, 61:2). Among the most prominent attributes of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) were truthfulness and trustworthiness, which laid the foundation for his effective method of Da’wah. His noble character and gentle speech inspired love and trust among people, which in turn led to acceptance of his message. Love begets obedience, and obedience strengthens love—this reciprocal relationship was a defining feature of the response of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). However, where hatred resides in hearts and arrogance clouds vision, as in the case of the Quraysh of Mecca, acceptance becomes difficult despite evident truth. The Prophet’s Da’wah mission spanned 23 years across Mecca and Medina, marked by eloquence, rational argumentation, and spiritual depth. This res.earch paper presents a comparative analysis of the Prophet’s method of Da’wah and the styles of selected contemporary Islamic movements in Pakistan. It examines the preaching approaches of organizations such as Minhaj-ul-Quran (led by Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri), Dawat-e-Islami (led by Maulana Ilyas Qadri), Jamaat-e-Islami (under Siraj-ul-Haq), and Tanzeem-ul-Arifeen (inspired by the teachings of Sultan Bahu). Drawing on authentic sources, this study highlights the need to realign modern Da’wah practices with the Prophetic model in order to meet the challenges of the contemporary era.
