Abstract

Drama is a literary art and a genre of ancient literature that extends from ancient times to the modern era. It was known in its primitive form among the people of Egypt, but it was a religious play revolving around the conflict between the god of good and the god of evil. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of research published in this genre of Arabic literature in Pakistan.

Arabic language departments in Pakistani universities have devoted special attention to academic articles that address the development of Arabic literature, both prose and poetry, in the modern era. Numerous master's theses and doctoral dissertations have been written, shedding light on prominent figures in modern prose, in addition to analytical studies of artistic phenomena such as description, ostentation, and other prose arts. A number of university dissertations have been completed that address various aspects of the play, in addition to a study of the development of the play from its introduction to the Arab world to the present day.  Among Pakistani universities, the Islamic University Bahawalpur stands out for its greater focus on theatrical arts. Similarly significant amount of literature on theatrical matters has been produced by the National University of Modern Languages and the Government College University, Faisalabad.
