Abstract

Doha is generally regarded as a short poetic form comprising two lines; however, its metrical structure, technical intricacies, and stylistic uniqueness have sparked diverse critical perspectives. As a significant genre of Hindi poetry, an in-depth study of the Doha requires careful attention to its specific rhythm, meter, and cadence, which serve as fundamental elements of its identity and poetic impact.Doha possesses its own lexicon and cultural ethos—one that is both a product and a reflection of the Indian subcontinent’s millennia-old literary and spiritual heritage. Alongside thematic richness, the modern Urdu Doha has undergone considerable stylistic evolution, marking a shift that affirms its contemporary relevance. Dr. Muhammad Azam Kuriyun, by referring to 'Chand Bardai' as the "Adam" of Hindi poetry , lends credence to the notion that the earliest creative forms of Doha may be traced back to that era

In the evolutionary trajectory of Urdu Doha writing, the period of Jamiluddin Aali stands as a landmark. His efforts played a pivotal role in revitalizing the form, lending it lyrical vitality and thematic depth, and integrating it meaningfully into the modern Urdu literary tradition.
