Abstract

Sexuality is an important but delicate aspect of Urdu Short Story, through which writers describe human nature, psychology and social contradictions. It is not limited to physical relationships but also reflects human desires, emotions, identity and social oppression.

Sexual themes were not openly discussed in early Urdu literature, but in the twentieth century, especially after the Progressive Movement, writers began to present this subject in a realistic manner. The influence of social consciousness and psychological theories (especially the ideas of Sigmund Freud) is prominent in this change. Sex was considered a basic human emotion and was included in fiction, so that the characters felt more real.

The stories of Saadat Hasan Manto "Kali Salwar" and "Thanda Gosht" expose human desires and social hypocrisy. The Short Story writers showed that society has a double standard on sexual matters - there is a contradiction between external morality and internal reality. Ismat Chughtai's short story "Lahaaf" highlights the repressed desires and social restrictions of a woman. Sexual themes in Urdu fiction are not just physical but also reflect human psychology, social pressures and moral complexities. It made Urdu fiction more realistic, bold and intellectually mature
