Abstract

This study explores the wisdom behind the prohibition of pork in Islam from both religious and modern medical perspectives, based on the objectives of Islamic law (Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah). It clarifies the Qur’anic and Prophetic foundations of the prohibition and highlights its legal, ethical, and health-related dimensions. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the research examines Quranic verses, Hadith, classical jurisprudence, and modern medical findings on the harms of pork. The results show that pork is unequivocally prohibited, with the primary reason being obedience to God, and secondary reasons including impurity, health risks, disease transmission, and negative moral effects. Modern medical evidence reinforces some aspects of the Sharīʿah wisdom but does not exhaust its rationale, confirming the timeless and universal validity of Islamic law. The study concludes that faith in divine legislation rests on submission and trust in God, and that Islamic rulings consistently promote human well-being physically and morally.
