This article discusses the nature, significance, and fundamental principles of literary historiography. It explains how literary history helps preserve cultural heritage, analyze literary trends, and understand the relationship between literature and its social, cultural, and political contexts. The study also highlights major challenges in literary historiography—such as lack of primary sources—and emphasizes the role of literary history in promoting critical understanding, research development, and alignment with contemporary global goals, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overall, the article shows that literary historiography is essential for interpreting the past, understanding the present, and shaping the future of literature.
