Abstract

This research article provides a comprehensive and analytical study of the intellectual contributions of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan, with a specific focus on the "Science of Reconciliation of Narrations" (Tatbiq al-Riwayat). The article is structured into two distinct but interconnected parts to provide a holistic view of the subject. The first part offers a detailed biographical and intellectual introduction to Imam Ahmad Raza Khan, positioning him as a polymath and a leading authority in Islamic sciences. It highlights his scholarly depth, his unwavering adherence to traditional jurisprudence, and his role in the intellectual revival of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The second part of the study is dedicated to a rigorous theoretical examination of Tatbiq al-Riwayat. It elucidates the linguistic and technical definitions of reconciliation, exploring how Islamic jurists and Hadith scholars resolve apparent contradictions (Ta’arud) between primary religious texts. This section emphasizes the critical importance and legal necessity of this science in preserving the internal consistency of Sharia laws. Through an analytical methodology, the research demonstrates that Imam Ahmad Raza Khan’s approach was not merely a literalist interpretation but a profound exercise in legal reasoning (Ijtihadic insight). The findings of this article suggest that his methodology of Tatbiq provides a sophisticated framework for modern researchers to understand the harmony within Prophetic traditions and legal reports, thereby strengthening the foundations of Islamic legal thought in the contemporary era.
