Abstract

This study examines the role of colleges in the promotion and development of Urdu literature through a research-based, analytical, and referenced approach. It explores how colleges contribute to literary growth by offering Urdu as an academic discipline, organizing co-curricular literary activities, and fostering an environment that encourages critical thinking, reading, and creative expression. The research highlights the impact of Urdu departments, trained faculty, literary societies, and college magazines in shaping student’s linguistic and literary competencies. It also evaluates challenges such as limited resources, declining reading habits, and inadequate institutional support, which affect the effectiveness of Urdu literary promotion at the college level. By analyzing institutional practices, student engagement, and educational policies, this study provides insights into how colleges can further strengthen their contribution to preserving, expanding, and modernizing Urdu literary culture. It also considers the role of libraries, curriculum design, and community outreach programs in broadening access to Urdu literary heritage. The findings underscore the need for improved resources, curriculum enhancement, and sustained academic initiatives to ensure the continued vitality of Urdu literature in higher education settings. This research ultimately argues that colleges serve as pivotal institutions in nurturing the next generation of Urdu scholars, critics, and creative writers, thereby ensuring the ongoing growth and relevance of Urdu literature in a rapidly evolving academic and cultural landscape.
