Importance and need of competence in the selection of Imam Masjid

Abstract

The article highlights the need and importance of competence in the selection of imams of mosques in the present era. Mosques are the center of worship and the education of the Islamic society. And the imams are the backbone of the mosque in the order. In this selection, it is necessary to adopt the methodology taught by Islamic law. While in the present era, just as there is conspiracy in general matters, the position of imam and khateeb is also facing various challenges. Increasing trend of aversion to religion or the abundance of non-Islamic civilization, criticism of scholars or disrespect for Islamic centers of knowledge, every challenge is a test in the present era. Due to abandonment of competence and standards in the selection of imams, it has become a difficult task to align the position of imam on the correct methodology and to effectively fulfill the duty of da'wah. The noble character of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the best guide for humanity in all matters. The Quran and Sunnah have given us the basic principles for the selection of the Imam of the mosque. In order to achieve the desired goals from the pulpit and the mihrab, the appointment of the Imams of the mosques must be in accordance with this basic procedure. Knowledge, necessary skills and a special methodology are required in the performance of this position. When the position is entrusted to the right people, its management will go in the right direction. Therefore, in this article, the qualifications and the basic necessary skills for the Imam Masjid have been mentioned with the explanations of the Islamic law and the jurists and great Islamic scholars. By adopting this essential standard of qualification and ability in the appointment of Imams, even today we can light the candle of recognition, guidance, education and training from the mosques.
