PROPHETIC HADITH AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY: A STUDY IN THE JURISPRUDENCE OF MEANS AND CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTS

Abstract

The contemporary human being lives in an era marked by the rapid pace of technological development, where digital means intertwine with various fields of scientific, intellectual, and religious life. Islamic knowledge is no longer insulated from this transformation; rather, it has entered the realm of digital technology, finding in it a new tool for disseminating knowledge and facilitating access to its sources.Amidst this changing reality, the Prophetic Hadith stands out with its divine guidance and timeless prophetic teachings, regulating human conduct and guiding the course of life in every time and place. With the emergence of modern tools, questions have arisen regarding how to employ these technologies in service of the Prophetic Sunnah while ensuring their use aligns with the objectives of Shariah and the ethics of knowledge.It has become essential to approach digital technology from a Shariah-based perspective that balances benefiting from it while avoiding its potential harms. Means, in themselves, are neither praised nor blamed; rather, their value is assessed according to whether they are used to achieve good or evil. Hence, the importance of the jurisprudence of means (Fiqh al-Wasa’il) emerges, providing guidance on engaging with contemporary innovations in a manner consistent with Islamic law.Thus, it becomes evident that the relationship between the Prophetic Hadith and digital technology is not one of conflict or contradiction. On the contrary, it offers a broad field for integration and cooperation, provided that technology is wisely employed to serve knowledge and viewed through the lens of jurisprudence and insight. The result is an authentic intellectual renaissance that combines the light of divine revelation with the guidance of modern science.
