Abstract

This research article explores the poetic contributions of Anwar Masood as a distinguished writer of qat‘a (quatrains) in Urdu literature. In Urdu poetry, the qat‘a serves as a concise yet comprehensive form, often addressing a wide range of themes. Anwar Masood, known for his mastery in humor and satire, uses this poetic form to highlight various aspects of society, including ethical, social, political, and cultural issues. His quatrains portray the realities of daily life with wit, depth, and purpose bringing attention to issues like inflation, poverty, political corruption, national crises such as Kashmir and water scarcity, and the decay of moral values. The article highlights Masood’s stylistic excellence, use of tazmeen (integration of other poets’ verses), and his ability to combine humor with meaningful social critique, making his qat‘as both entertaining and thought-provoking.
