The Qur’anic Concept of Personality Development and Its Contemporary Relevance

Abstract

This study aims to explore the Quranic perspective of personality development and its contemporary relevance. Personality development is one of the most important topics of the present era. It plays a key role in the well-being of every individual, especially for a Muslim individual from the Islamic perspective. For the well-being of a Muslim, he must strive to achieve Allah’s pleasure by building his personality and the personality of others according to the Quran and Sunnah. Achieving the best in this world and hereafter is the goal of the Islamic concept of personality development. Islam presents itself as a complete code of life in the context of balanced and successful personality development. Holy Quran and the commandments of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) cover almost every aspect of life, and in this sense, the Quran and Sunnah play a significant role in building a personality. Quranic perspective of personality development presents a complete program for personality building. Quranic perspective of personality development explains that every human should know the purpose of his creation. The Quran stresses to adopt Patience and Gratitude as resources for Personality development.  The Quran emphasizes on purification of the Soul, the term used in the Quran for Purification is Tazkiyah. The Quran tells Our faith should be accompanied by good deeds and excellence. Quran presents Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as a role model for personality development. Quran presents a complete practical road map in the shape of the Qualities of Ibad ur Rahman (The servants of the Merciful), Qualities of Successful believers, and in the shape of Luqman Hakim's pieces of advice to his son. This Quranic practical roadmap plays a significant role in shaping a balanced and successful Muslim personality. Quranic roadmap is the need of the current era.
